In Loving Memory of Chung Soon Hwang

The world lost a true angel when Chung Soon Hwang passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.

Chung Soon lived a remarkable life defined by faith, devotion, love and quiet strength. Born with a generous spirit and a heart the size of Korea, she openly welcomed everyone. She was the cherished wife of the late Oe Tok Hwang and the beloved mother of Dr. Don Hwang (Hee Choi) and Tina Barker (Paul Barker). She is now reunited in heaven with her daughter Linda Pyun (Ed Pyun), whose memory and life she celebrated and carried tenderly in her heart.

She leaves behind eight adoring grandchildren-Shelly (John Watson), Gloria, Jacqueline (Johnny Jung), Joel, Carolyn, Morgan, Corin, Paul Jr-each of whom was blessed by her warmth, humor ,wisdom, and endless love. Known to them affectionately as Halmeoni (grandmother in Korean), she delighted in every moment spent with her family, her church, and her many dear friends. Her home was always filled with laughter, comfort, and the smell of something delicious she was insisting on serving, mostly kimchee and rice (which was nice). She also spent an ungodly amount of time in her gorgeous garden which provided fantastic fruits and voluminous amounts of vegetables for all to enjoy.

For more than 30 years, Chung Soon and her husband faithfully ran Chung's Coffee Shop, a Philadelphia restaurant where they served their community with the same care and dedication that defined every part of her life. A strong and independent woman, she continued to live in the family home where she raised her children, creating a sanctuary of love and tradition.

Halmeoni had a playful side too-especially with the family dog, Khyber , who shared a special bond with her and often enjoyed table scraps she sneakily offered, despite the "strict" house rules.

Chung Soon Hwang's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and faith. Her gentle kindness and unshakable strength touched everyone who knew her. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will continue to shine brightly through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend.

All services will be held at the Bradley Funeral Home, 601 SR-73 S, Marlton, NJ 08053. Viewing and Service will be Monday, September 29, 7pm. Prayer Service, Tuesday, September 30, 10am. Interment will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park in Cherry Hill, NJ.
