Celebrating the extraordinary life of Claire Alicia Fitzgerald Collins, who was born to Marion and Edward Fitzgerald in Northport, New York, on February 26, 1928. Claire passed at the age of 97 on November 23, 2025. She was at her home in Hurley, NY, and was surrounded by more than twenty family members at the time of her death and for an extended period of time before her passing.
Visitors to the home may have thought an all-day celebration was underway, and it was, as the family was able to spend some special time together with each other and with Claire. It was a sight for anyone fortunate to witness it.
Claire was predeceased by her husband, John G. Collins, her great-grandson, Leonti Mello, and her brother, Edward Fitzgerald. She is survived by her children, John (Griff), Alicia, Mark (Deke), Kimberly, Sharon, and Bridget. Ten grandchildren survive Claire: Rachel, Claire, Elodie, Zelie, Adelaide, Gabriel, Agnes, Issac, Theo, Lucy, and six great-grandchildren: Christopher, Maxine, Roman, Eloise, Isabella, and Avila.
Claire was a devoted wife and mother. Later in life, Claire was a realtor at Strout Realty. She moved to Krumville from Long Island in the 1960s.
Claire’s “mothering” extended to any friends of her children who were fortunate enough to come into her life. She was always happy to meet someone new and welcomed so many into her circle of friendship. Claire had a zest for life, one that enabled her to witness the world with her children and grandchildren, maintaining a world-traveler status until the age of 95. She was an avid knitter and loved to crochet.
Services will be private, and burial will be at a later date.
