98 Claire P. Deforge Obituary
Claire was born in Brighton, September 3, 1927, a daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth (McAlinden) Twomey and was a 1945 graduate of St. Columbkille High School.
She leaves two sons, Richard Deforge of Belfast, Maine and George Deforge of Hampden, Maine; three daughters, Patricia Deforge of Athol, Elizabeth Deforge of Leominster, and Denise Cannata of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Claire was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Alvah J. Deforge, Jr. in 2007 and her son, Alvah J. Deforge III in 2017. She was the sister of the late Agnes W. Twomey, Sr. Mary Rita Twomey S.S.J., Theresa Shea, Thomas F. Twomey, John Twomey, and Joseph Twomey.
She worked briefly as a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Newtonville before becoming a military wife and traveling the world for twenty five years before retiring to Ayer in 1967. Claire was always ready to share the many wonderful stories of her life's journeys with her husband and her children. She was very proud of the beautiful family she created with her husband.
Claire was an avid Boston Bruins fan. Her favorite hobby was genealogical research on her and her husband's families. Claire was very proud of her Irish heritage. St. Patrick's Day was her favorite day of the year. She enjoyed her frequent trips to Stowe, Vermont with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Claire was thankful to spend time with four generations of her family. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ayer.
Claire's family will receive relatives and friends at a calling hour from 9:30 – 10:30 AM Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, (Rt. 2A) Ayer. www.andersonfuneral.com.
Claire's funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Anthony's Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Ayer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
