Claire Page Rankin was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on April 22, 1928. Claire died on March 5, 2025, in Los Osos, California. She was 96 years old.
Claire was the one of six children born to Raul and Elodia (Lariviere) Page. She graduated from Holyoke High in 1946. She worked in various jobs throughout high school and afterwards. She worked in a glass factory, sorting push pins and later a papermill.
Her adventurous spirit led her to visit her brother Arthur and his family in Los Angeles in 1954, where she decided to stay and explore. Claire continued to have a variety of jobs in Los Angeles, including working as a telephone information operator. But, by far one of her most interesting jobs was working in the photo lab of the FBI in Los Angeles.
Claire lived at the Glendale YWCA, during she formed friendships that would last her a lifetime and ultimately meeting Wayne Eaton Rankin through the mixed group events with the YMCA.
Wayne and Claire married in 1956 and raised three children- Anita, Julia, and Paul-primarily in Sylmar, California. She helped Wayne with his machine shop business.
Mom worked for SEARS in their catalog dept. - human resources & auditing dept. for 22 years prior to retirement.
In retirement, Wayne and Claire relocated to Morro Shores, Los Osos.
Claire's adventurous spirit could be seen throughout the years in her involvement with family camping trips and camping with the Girl Scouts. Wayne and Claire also became members of an Airstream trailer group in retirement and continued to travel the United States. She developed a love for cruising and seeing the world. She visited the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Spain, Malta, Italy, Tunisia, Corsica, France, Monaco and Monte Carlo. She even achieved a lifes dream of flying in a hot air balloon at the age of 85 and of seeing a sunset and sunrise in the Grand Canyon.
Claire had a very creative side with a passion for sewing and quilting. She was known in the family for her baking and love of making cookies, fudge, breads, and gingerbread houses with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother and a great grandmother, making many cherished memories for all of them.
She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters at the St. Didacus parish in Sylmar, CA and a member of St. Elizabeth Church in Los Osos, CA.
Claire is proceeded in death by her parents, Raul and Elodia Page; her brothers Roland, Arthur and Raymond; her husband, Wayne; and grandson Isreal Silva.
She is survived by her brother Gerald and sister Lousie and their families; her children Anita (Jon), Julia (Monty) and Paul (Alicia); grandchildren Michelle, Daniel (Ana), Andrew (Stephanie),Ara Natalie (Adam), Brian (Victoria), Madeleine, Joseph (Claudia) and Patrick; great grandchildren Gabriel, Cecilia, Valerie and MaryJane.
