Clara Mae Adamson was born May 8, 1938, the middle child of Evert and Esther (Sjogren) Adamson, in Fairmont, Minnesota. Clara died March 13, 2025, at Seasons Healthcare in Trimont, MN.
Clara was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Trimont, MN. She graduated in 1956 from Tri-Mont High School. After high school graduation, Clara continued her education by attending North Park College, Chicago, IL (Bachelor of Arts, 1960); Northeastern University, Chicago, IL (elementary education certification, 1967); Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, VA (Master of Christian Education, 1971); and College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.
Clara's career was vast and enriching. It began by going on high school summer mission trips to Mississippi with the daughter of her father's friend from a congregation in Mountain Lake, MN. Her experiences there led her to North Park College, and ultimately to a life filled with faith and service to others. After college, Clara was part of the First Covenant Youth Caravan, where she formed relationships that lasted the rest of her life. Clara taught, and was Dean of Women, at Covenant Bible Institute (College), Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada; Director of Residence & Student Activities, Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, IL; taught grades 1 and 2 at Bethune Elementary School in Minneapolis, MN; served as Director of Christian Education, Hinsdale Covenant Church, Hinsdale, IL; Minister of Christian Education, Excelsior Covenant Church, Excelsior, MN. She had Covenant Home mission/church extension assignments in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Olathe, KS; and served at Covenant churches in numerous other states. She worked in an adult group home in Winthrop, MN. She was a teacher/leader at many summer church camps and youth programs throughout the U.S. and Canada.
As Clara neared her retirement years, she wanted to be near her beloved North Shore of Minnesota, a place she had enjoyed family vacations her entire life. She introduced many family members to the region from Duluth up and through Grand Marais, where she organized and co-hosted many family gatherings.
While in Duluth, she became a staff member, strong supporter and fixture at Our Place, a Covenant Enabling Residence for adults. She shared her time, talents, and love of enabling with those who find it challenging to adapt to everyday life at work and in social interactions. She was a member of First Covenant Church, Duluth, and spent countless hours playing the piano at senior residences and nursing homes, attending concerts, and taking community education courses.
Music was an essential part of Clara's life. She had the rare gift of being able to play the piano entirely by ear. Whenever someone would join her in singing, she would harmonize. In her younger years, she played coronet, accordion, and harmonica. Any place with a piano became an occasion that needed music, which she gladly provided. Making music and making friends were synonymous in Clara's world. Both brought a smile to her face which radiated from her to everyone she touched.
Clara returned home to Trimont when her own health began to present challenges. There, she again became a member of her home church. Her move allowed her to be near three of her four siblings, but regardless of miles of separation, she kept in touch constantly with her family and friends. She made it a priority to attend every family graduation, wedding, funeral, and many birthdays and special celebrations. Throughout her lifetime, Clara traveled to visit family and friends in Sweden, Costa Rica, Bermuda and Ecuador and traveled extensively with close friends.
Wherever Clara went, she changed lives. Her mission to serve God by serving others has been a shining light and an example to all who knew and loved her.
Clara is survived by sisters Joyce Rabbe, Trimont, MN, Carol Hauser, Gridley, IL, brothers Sterling Adamson and Dwight (Mary) Adamson, Trimont MN, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Carl and Clara (Lindell) Sjogren, Fred and Lydia (Nelson) Adamson, parents Evert and Esther (Sjogren) Adamson, brothers-in law Stanley Hauser and John Rabbe, sister-in-law Dianne Adamson, niece Anne Hauser, nephews Andrew Longworth and Ryan Bell.
