Betty was a very interesting person. She knew so much about early Madison. She told me about the Crayon Factory that was near her home. She used to ride her horse in the fields where 95 is now. She had a wonderful old barn with memories of her horses. She loved to garden and helped me with mine.
Betty was a true friend.

I met Betty Parker when I moved nextdoor to her in Nov. 1989. One day in the Spring I went over and asked if I could buy some rhubarb from her because "yours is farther along than mine." She wouldn't consider taking any money and said "Oh for Heaven's sake, if I can't give a neighbor some rhubarb, they better put me away."
She was a sweet lady and a good neighbor.

Betty and I graduated in the 1937 class from Hand High School. I remember her and her brother Jack well, Betty always polite, attentive and caring. She carried this pattern on throughout her long life as she lost one after another of her family and friends. After caring and working for others, she was finally "alone" except for a few friends who remembered her kindly. I was honored to be among them. Even though I live on the West Coast, we wrote each other and I called her often so long as she had a phone.
