Clara M. Struemph, 87, of Wardsville passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Westphalia Hills. She was born on March 20, 1937 in Ontario, Oregon a daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Massman) Engetschwiler, both whom preceded her in death. She attended St. Elizabeth High School in St. Elizabeth and graduated in 1955. On June 6, 1959, she was united in marriage at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth to Martin J. Struemph, who preceded her in death on September 18, 2016.
Clara was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
After graduation in 1955 she went to work at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis. Then in January 1956 she went to work for Tweedies in Jefferson until 1962. She then became a stay-at-home mother and also did babysitting for other children while her children were growing up. She then went back to work in 1979 for the State Department of Professional Registration for the Real Estate Commission until her retirement on March 1, 1994.
Clara loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, camping and traveling. She loved playing cards, and especially enjoyed playing Bingo.
She is survived by her four sons: Mark Struemph of Jefferson City, Dale (Angie) Struemph of Vienna, Daniel (Rhonda) Struemph of Wardsville and Donald (Pamela) Struemph of Wardsville; and one daughter: Brenda (Michael) Eichholz of Westphalia; two sisters: Mary Ann Bock of Jefferson City and twin sister Jean Volmert of Centertown; eight grandchildren: Leslie (Sam) Barnhart, Jason (Abby) Struemph, Megan (Zach) Seales, Kody Struemph (Krystal Lea), Marcus (Victoria) Struemph, Kacey (Brandon) Shipman, Benjamin (Makenzie) Struemph, and Alexi (Josiah) Homan; and thirteen great grandsons: Jack Struemph, Hudson Barnhart, William Struemph, Hoyt Barnhart, James "Baelor" Shipman, Zander Struemph, Karson Wieberg, Rhett Seales, Joseph "Bayne" Shipman, Bennett Struemph, Rowan Seals, Callahan Struemph and Bo Daniel Seales; three great granddaughters: Beckett Barnhart, Hattie Struemph, and Eleanor Struemph and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Martin; she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law: Diane Struemph; and her in-laws: Frank and Rose Struemph; David Struemph, Alphonse Struemph, Marcella Utterback and her husband Tom, Walter Bock. Flavion Volmert and Joan Schnieders and her husband Tom.
Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Finder officiating. Entombment will follow at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Stanislaus Church Capital Improvements or Alzheimer's Association.
