Clara E. (Murren) Todt, age 92, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024 at Country Meadows in York. She was the loving wife of the late J. Donald Todt who passed away on October 12, 2013; together they shared 57 years of marriage.
Clara was born in Hanover, PA on April 8, 1932 and was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Horwedel) Murren. She worked at Middleburg Sewing Factory after graduation and until getting married. Clara worked alongside her husband on the family farm for 57 years as a dairy, crop, livestock, turkey, and chicken farmer. Clara was a 4-H Leader, planted a huge garden each year for her family, enjoyed canning, and won awards as a top turkey grower for Plainville Farms. She was a member of the former Centennial Fire Company Auxiliary, life member of S.A.V.E.S. and longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Basilica in Hanover. Clara was proud to have raised her six children and cherished the time she spent with her loving family, especially her grandchildren as they always lit up her day.
Clara is survived by her two sons James F. Todt and companion Pam Costella of McSherrystown and Michael J. Todt of New Oxford; her four daughters Joan M. Whiteford and husband Scott of Thomasville, Margaret A Lockner and companion Shawn Seifert of Hanover, Kathleen T. Todt and companion Michael J. Smith of McSherrystown, and Christine L. Yealy and husband Mark "Harry" of New Oxford; her daughter-in-law Debra Todt of Hanover; her seven grandchildren Amanda, Jordan, Samantha, Nathan, Elizabeth, Donald, and Andrew; her great-granddaughter Noelle; her seven step-grandchildren Mary, Susan, Robert, Tony, Jason, Laura, and Reed; her ten step great-grandchildren Zachary, Garrett, Gabrielle, Leah, Caleb, Mia, Jalen, Charleigh, Zayn, Natasha; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Eugene Murren, Bernard "Barney" Murren, John Murren, and Claude Murren; and her sister Mary Murren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Clara's Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline as celebrant. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Conewago Chapel Cemetery in Hanover. Viewings will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave.,
McSherrystown, PA 17344 with recitation of the rosary at 8:00PM.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Todt, Nathan Todt, Jordan Lockner, Donald Yealy, Andrew Yealy, and Derek Smith.
The Todt Family wishes to thank the staff of Country Meadows and LifeSong Hospice, Clara's long term and dedicated caregiver Vicci Gladhill, and the visitors of the homebound ministry of Sacred Heart Parish for the care and compassion they showed to Clara.
