Clarence Franklin Austin

Clarence Franklin Austin was born May 20, 1939, in Dundee, Michigan. The son of Cloy Austin and Grace (Bernard) Austin, he was one of two children born to their union. He attended school through the ninth grade at Dundee Community Schools.

Even though Clarence did not complete high school, he found himself guided by a strong work ethic and common sense as he began a career as a general contractor in the construction industry. He built numerous structures including Jack in the Box restaurants and La-Z-Boy furniture showrooms.

After years of working with the trades, Clarence sought a change. He traded his blueprints for something entirely different. His new position was acting as a Sheriff in a Jesse James territory "tourist trap" in Mississippi. Dressed in period-appropriate attire, he brought history to life for visitors, sharing tales of the Wild West.

A wanderer at heart, Clarence spent much of his life traveling across the United States. From the sun-drenched beaches of California to the rugged shores of Maine, he explored the diverse landscapes and met many people along the way.

In his golden years, Clarence continued his love of two wheels, although trading in his motorcycle, he embraced the tranquility of life on a more leisurely bicycle. Riding through town, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of feeling the wind on his face, greeting old friends, and taking in the familiar sights.

Clarence Franklin Austin, age 86, of Dundee, passed away at his home at 10:00am on Saturday; September 13, 2025. His passing was preceded by his parents and a sister: Jeanette Secor.

To cherish his memory, he leaves two sons: Joel (Mary) Schultz of Dundee and David Schultz of Georgia; three grandchildren: Timothy (Courtney) Stamper, Nesha Schultz, and Dalton Schultz; and one great grandson: Timothy Stamper Jr.

His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156. No public services have been planned. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
