Clarence L. Cross, 87, of Rock Island, IL, died Thursday, February 27, 2025 at New Perspective Assisted Living in Silvis, IL. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, IL. Services will be at 10:30 am Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a charity to be established. Clarence was born August 23, 1937 in rural Mercer County, IL, to Cook and Lillian (Weikert) Cross. He married Alberta F. Dennis in Rock Island on July 6, 1958. He did various types of work before going to MacMillan-Bloedel Container Co. in Rock Island, from where he retired in 1999. Clarence was an avid fisherman. He loved socializing with others and he never met a stranger. Clarence was good at working on cars and could fix about anything. He enjoyed walking and cleaning up the environment by recycling what he collected. He is survived by sons; Mike Cross (Thom Gerke), De Pere, WI, Mark Cross (Connie Lairmore), Milan, IL, Tim Cross (Kandice Miles), Eldridge, IA; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren with one on the way; siblings, Richard Cross, Bellvue, MI, and Ronald (Cindy) Cross, Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta; daughter at birth, Carol Cross; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Donna Cross; brothers, Lawrence Cross, Sr, Kenneth Cross and Harold Cross.
