Clarence William Hodge, Sr., 97, passed away peacefully on Monday. April 22, 2024, at his residence in Staunton, with his son and daughter-in-law by his side.
He was born on July 3, 1926, in Highland County to the late Clarence Elvin and Sarah Frances Eckard Hodge.
Clarence will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting with his son in West Augusta and Ramsey’s Draft. He remained active until his last year when his health started to decline.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served in WWII. He was a jack of all trades holding many jobs throughout his life, the job he will be most remembered for was being a master carpenter.
He is survived by his son, Clarence W. Hodge, Jr., and his wife, Judy Hodge; his sisters, Shirley Newlen of Timberville and Juanita Campbell of Mount Crawford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hodge; a daughter, Brenda Kay Shifflett; a grandson, Michael Hodge; his brothers, Roy, Charles, Claude and Eugene Hodge; and his sisters, Geneva Tallman, Sylvia Eisman, Glenna Campbell, Betty Harris, and Marie Davis.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home. The Reverend Rusty Marshall and his wife, Treva, will be officiating.
Interment will immediately follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Carpenter, Chester Fitzgerald, Danny Hodge, Steven Welcher, and Steve Ingram.
