Clarence J. "Mep" Mepham

Clarence J. ("Mep") Mepham of Victor NY, formerly of Brighton NY, passed away on October 2nd, 2024 at the age of 91. Born September 3, 1933 in Ontario, New York to Theodore and Florence Mepham. He attended SUNY at Cortland where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1955 and his Masters in Science in Physical Education in 1964.
While attending Cortland he earned a total of 10 varsity letters in soccer, basketball, and track. He was an All-American in soccer and a record setting middle distance runner, setting school records in the quarter mile, half mile, mile, and mile relay. He was the school's Senior Male Athlete in 1955.
His coaching career in the Cortland and Brighton school systems spanned 31 years retiring as Brighton's Interim Athletic Director in 1988. During that time he was named the Named Rochester Democrat & Chronicle Basketball Coach of the Year twice (1968, 1976), earned New York State Coaches Association Honor Award for basketball and soccer in 1984, the Section Five Soccer Hall of Fame inductee in 1988. He was further inducted into Wayne Central (1951 alumnus) Hall of Fame as a coach in 1986 and into its Soccer Hall of Fame as a player in 2014. He was a member of the Central Western Zone Physical Education and Recreation board and received the Central Western Zone's "Amazing Person Award" in 1989. In 2017 he was inducted into the SUNY Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame.
Survived by his wife of 69 years Helgi; sisters Audrey Held and Marcia Mepham; son Dennis and his children Michael (wife Randi), Alissa, Natalia, and Christopher; son William (Margaret) and their daughter Emily (Matthew), great grandchild Ruth, son William Jr, son Daniel, daughter Sarah (Kevin), and son Joseph; daughter Kathy (David) and their children Karly, Shea, and Shane; daughter Lisa (Christopher) and her son Ben (Rebecca), great grandchild Lucas, and stepchildren Jacob and Jillian.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 19th, 2PM at Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, 1200 S. Winton Road, Rochester, NY 14618. Immediately following the funeral service, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Country Club of Rochester, 2935 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14610.
