Clarence "Pop" Alvin Owen, Sr., 84, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Hospice Home.  He was the son of the late John and Clay Guerrant Owen and was married for 67 years to Nancy Tickle Owen who survives.

Clarence worked for the Gibsonville Fire Department for over 40 years, serving as Fire Chief for 12 years before retiring.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville for over 60 years and served as a Alderman on the Gibsonville Town Council for over 30 years.  Clarence was a very avid fan of the Western Alamance Football Team, never missing a game for over 40 years, whether home or away, until his health prevented him from going.  He loved fishing, farming, sharing his vegetables with senior citizens and using his tractor for neighbors who needed help in their gardens and clearing snow from driveways in the winter.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather who truly enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, just celebrating their anniversary on December 1st; daughter, Kathy Somers and her husband, Bryan; son, Alvin Owen and his wife, Sheri; grandchildren, Jason Owen and his wife, Risha, Gary Owen and his wife, Ashley, Mitzi Gunn and her husband, Jamie; great grandchildren, Edwin Gunn, Wesley Gunn, Caleb Owen, Jessalynn Owen, Avery Owen, Hanna Thompson, Jordann Thompson, Justin Thompson, Trinity Drewery; great great grandchildren, Lacey Gunn, Logan Drewery; sister, Margaret Ann “Polly” Hart; sisters-in-law, Delia Owen and Becky Owen; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Hammit Owen and James Thomas Owen.

The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to Tonya McKinney and Susan Johnson Dixon for all their love and support.

The graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 8, 2024 at Gibsonville City Cemetery by Rev. J.D. Weed.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church of Gibsonville and at other times at the home.  The Guilford and Alamance County Fire Honor Guard will provide honors at the visitation and the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gibsonville Fire Department, 218 Piedmont Ave. Gibsonville, NC 27249.
