Clarence E. Teegarden, Sr was born on July 17, 1928 to Mr. Harley Burt and Ada Eleanor Forney Teegarden of Oakwood, Ohio. He was the oldest of nine children. When he was seventeen in 1946 he joined the Army Air Corp and did his basic training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. After basic training, he was sent to Scott Air Base in Illinois where he trained as a radio operator. After that training, he was sent to New Finland and then on to King Salmon, Alaska where he learned to be an Air Traffic Controller. This became a career path for him in the military with deployments to Japan and the Azores. After 20 years of service, he retired and then began a career as an Air Traffic Controller in the private sector. He worked in Vietnam as a private contractor and then settled in Mobile, Alabama as an Air Traffic Controller at Brookley Airfield until retirement. He was a Life Member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Clarence and his beloved wife of 50 years, Jean, moved to Gulfport and built their retirement home on Autry Drive beside their adopted children, Lori and Donald Evans in 1992. They were very special to them as well as their children and grandchildren and were affectionately known as Grandma T and Pawpaw T. They joined First Baptist Church of Lyman and were members there for the past 33 years.
Mr. Teegarden was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Eleanor Teegarden, Siblings, Donald, Elmer, Katherine, Robert, Pearl, Evelyn and Opal, his wife, Jean, a son, Richard and wife Debbie, and a daughter, Bernice Teegarden.
