Clarice Swinson passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18th at the age of 94. She was born September 7, 1931. Clarice and her eleven Siblings knew the meaning of hard work, growing up on a cotton farm in southeast Georgia during the Great Depression. The hardships she experienced during childhood taught her the value of saving every penny.
She lived by that belief throughout her life. She graduated from Surrency High School in 1949. Later she attended South Georgia College, where she studied secretarial skills. She married the love of her life, James (Jim) E. Swinson, in Baxley, Georgia in November 1951. She accompanied Jim throughout his career in the United States Air Force. She raised four children while making homes in Savannah, Georgia, Athens, Greece, Albuquerque, New Mexico and at Edwards Air Force Base, California. In 1972, Jim and Clarice settled in Hazlehurst, Georgia, where they became active members of the Altamaha Community and Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Clarice worked in the business office at Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst for several years. She was a member of Eastern Star and served as worthy matron. Since 2011, she lived in Chapin, South Carolina.
She leaves behind four children: Shirley Swinson Carter (Jack), Janet Swinson Flint (Kendrick), James T. Swinson (Stephanie) and Steven D. Swinson, two grandchildren: Lindsey Carter and Trenton Swinson as well as many nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings are Manning Edison Dubberly, Frances Dubberly McGlohon, Doris Dubberly Dugger, Patricia Dubberly Moody, Joseph Edward Dubberly, William Paul Dubberly.
