Edward Rowell, age 81, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at his residence under the care of Georgia Hospice Care
Mr. Rowell was born September 5, 1944 in Baxley to the late W. C. Rowell and the late Gladys Hartley Rowell. He was a man of quiet strength and steady character, known for his deep love of family and his appreciation of the outdoors. Mr. Rowell spent many of his happiest days hunting, fishing, raising cattle and sharing time with those he cared about. His presence brought a sense of calm and reliability to everyone who knew him.In addition to his parents, Mr. Rowell was preceded in death by his wife, Lanell Watts Rowell; son, James Edward Rowell; sister, Verna Mae Rowell; and a brother, Russell Lee Rowell, Sr.
He is survived by his son, Ronald (Anita) Rowell of Baxley; sisters, Betty Griffin of Baxley and Barbara Watts of Hazlehurst; brother, Carroll Rowell of Callahan, FL; grandsons, Walker (Kandra) Rowell, Willy (Erica) Wright, Zach (Heather) Wright and Wyatt Wright; and great grandchildren, Maelynn Rowell, Millie Rowell, Brantlee Wright, Emersyn Wright, Liam Wright, Oliver Wright, Ellie Wright, Tatum Williams, and Tess Williams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Beecher officiating.
Interment will follow in Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Watts, Rusty Rowell, Ricky Rowell, Stephen Watts, Scott Beasley, Bryan Medders and Adam Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Morning Coffee Club at Pojo’s and Michelle Dukes.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
