Clark Schuler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boston Cremation - Malden Care Center on Aug. 22, 2024.
Clark S. (Dutch) Schuler, age 90, of Lexington Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2024, after a brief illness.
He was born in Allentown Pennsylvania on June 17, 1934, to the late Clark and Esther (Master)
Schuler
Clark graduated from Medford Vocational High School and worked as a cabinet maker. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1952, volunteered for, and was selected to attend, deep sea diver training in Bayonne NJ. 25 men started and only 9 graduated, with Clark at the top of his class. He served as a US Navy Deep Sea Salvage Diver from 1953-1961, receiving commendation for outstanding performance of duty in Japan after volunteering to free-dive in frigid water to cut an LST's stern anchor line from the prop shaft. He served on three ships and completed his active duty assigned to the USS Luzon. Clark was proud of his service – both onboard and underwater and continued to meet each year with USS Luzon shipmates from around the country until 2020.
Clark married Judith (Evans) in 1958 and together they had four children. He lived a life of service to others: as president of the Winchester Kiwanis, volunteer for town of Lexington's town clerk's office and police department, delivering Meals on Wheels for 25 years, and most recently as Jr. Vice Commander of Lexington VFW Post #3007. He loved the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing both locally and in his beloved Auld's Cove Nova Scotia. Clark was an avid reader, an airplane and motorcycle enthusiast who rode his motorcycle just four months before his passing. He loved a campfire, the smell of fresh pine, and traveling the world. Those who know Clark can attest to his woodworking abilities, he was a master scroll-saw artist who shared his gifts with friends all over the world.
Clark was the beloved husband of Judith for 66 years. He was the loving father to Debra Ristaino and her husband Joseph of Sarasota, FL, Brenda Schuler of Worcester, MA, Clark D. Schuler and his wife Leesa of Wilmington, MA, and Kimberlee Schuler and her husband William Martin of West Dennis, MA. He was the cherished grandfather of Joseph Ristaino and his wife Katie, Clark Ristaino, Courtney Schuler, and Kelli Schuler, as well as the adoring great-grandfather of Cora Jo Ristaino and brother-in-law to Cynthia Evans.
Clark was the devoted brother of the late Donald Schuler and his late wife, Juel, and he was the loving uncle to Warren Schuler, Paul Schuler, and Kevin Schuler.
A celebration of his life will take place at Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington on Saturday September 14 at 2:00pm. Reception to follow in the fellowship hall at Hancock Church. He will also be remembered on October 5th in Nova Scotia at the Auld's Cove Fire Hall from 12:00pm – 4:00pm.
In 2018, Clark was invited to travel to Washington DC as a guest of Honor Flight. The experience was so profound that he used every opportunity to promote the heroic efforts of Honor Flight New England. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Honor Flight New England in Clark's memory. Donations may be sent to honorflightnewengland.org or Honor Flight New England / PO Box 16287 / Hooksett, NH 03106
