Clarke Poad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kessler Fahrenkrug Funeral Home - Neenah on Feb. 3, 2024.
At home on his Tallgrass Prairie, Dr. Clarke Poad sailed away with the angels in search of endless turquoise waters on February 2, 2024 at the age 93.
Clarke was an adventurer whose love of sailing was only surpassed by his love for his family – both the animal and human variety. We will remember Clarke most of all for loving 'all creatures great and small.' His impact on the veterinary world will live on for years to come. From healing the majestic eagle to rescuing countless vulnerable animals and saving every stray who crossed his path. Clarke's love for all creatures knew no bounds.
Clarke's life was akin to a well-navigated voyage, with each chapter as riveting as the waters he adored sailing. His passion for adventure was paralleled by his love of reading historical literature, a reflection of his deep connection to the world's storied past. Yet, it was within the safe harbor of his family's embrace that Clarke's soul found its deepest contentment.
Clarke was born in Hancock, Wisconsin in 1930 to Clarence and Carrie Poad. After serving our country in the Air Force, he attended the University of Minnesota Veterinary School – he delighted in reminding us he was the president of his class.
A pursuit of veterinary excellence led to the creation of Appanasha Pet Clinic in Menasha followed by the Animal Medical Center in Appleton. For Clarke, being a veterinarian went beyond a profession-it was his life's passion.
He is survived by his wife Therese, the love of his life; son Chris; granddaughter Dr. Carrie (Ben) Howe of Ham Lake, Minnesota; grandson Bob (Bobbi) Buss of Muskego, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren Morgan (Jake) Aperi; Gabby and Kendall Buss; Rosamond and Ben Howe Jr; mother-in-law Mary Wendt of Appleton, Wisconsin; sisters- and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his canine family - Jones, Sammi and Barb; his feline family - Ester, Peter and Bat; his equine family - Red and Ella.
A funeral for Clarke will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Christ the King Lutheran Church; 601 S. Washington St. Combined Locks, Wisconsin 54113. A visitation preceding the funeral will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., also at Christ the King. The Kessler-Fahrenkrug Funeral Home is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Clarke's name to the Amazing Grace Equine Sanctuary, W4985 County Rd. FF, Elkhart Lake, WI 53020 (www.rescuehorses.org). Please honor Clarke by indulging in anything chocolate or toasting him with a glass of scotch or red wine.
"We only part to meet again. Change, as ye list, ye winds; my heart shall be the faithful compass that still points to thee," John Gay.
