His most favorite assignment was being stationed at the Indiana Convention Center overseeing the fire alarm and suppression systems.

Fred was also very active in DeMolay and their chapter "Dad". He was an advisor for the Rainbow Girls, and a Past President of the Masters and Wardens Association.
Another important part of his live was attending and helping at church. For many years he attended Southport Baptist Church and then Southport Presbyterian Church. He regularly attended the services at Compass Park.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lu, and his three children Douglas (Jonda) Poad, Kimberly (Larry) Mendenhall and Kevin (Sheila) Poad. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mark (Saddie) Mendenhall, Michael (Makayla) Mendenhall, Logan Poad, Megan (Jesse) Cook and Levi Poad and great-granddaughter Josie Cook.
