Claud Edward "Ed" Digiglio, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and servant of God, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 90 in Midlothian, Texas. Born on August 20, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph and Mildred Digiglio, Ed grew up in Dallas, where his strong work ethic and deep faith took root.
Ed served his country honorably in the United States Navy, a foundation that shaped his lifelong dedication to service. A man of many talents, Ed pursued careers as a diesel mechanic, truck driver, and pastor. For over 63 years, he served as a licensed and ordained minister, pastoring three churches and acting as chaplain at the Estes Unit Prison in Venus, Texas. Most recently, he attended Wagon Wheel Cowboy Church, where he continued his ministry and love for fellowship.
A craftsman at heart, Ed excelled in leatherwork and carpentry, even building the family home in Midlothian. Known for his brisket-cooking skills and love for classic westerns, Ed was happiest when working on classic cars or tinkering in his shop. He chronicled his extraordinary journey in his published book, The Wayward Trucker.
Ed was a man of joy, often remembered for his cheerful "errrr-ing" when in good spirits. His spaghetti dinners, a family favorite, and his unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
On May 12, 1955, Ed married the love of his life, Arlee Wells. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and community. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Arlee Digiglio; his daughters, Joni Gillmen (Jack) and Belinda Taylor (Joe); his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Rollins (Dalyn), James Pace, Matthew Pace, Jason Taylor, Christina Smiciklas-Youngblood, JJ Gillmen, and Ashley Cade; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Digiglio; his sisters, Rosalie Digiglio and Billie Jo Draper; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 1 in the afternoon at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff and hospice workers at Midtowne Meadows, who provided exceptional care during Ed's final year.
Ed's legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
