Mr. Claude Byrd, Jr., “Junior”, age 86, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC, surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM-2:30PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC. A Graveside Service will be held 3:00PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC. Rev. Glenn McCullen and Mr. Charlie Norris will officiate.
Mr. Byrd was born in Johnston County, NC, to the late Claude Byrd, Sr., and Pearl Norris Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Blackmon Byrd, and sons, Robin Byrd, and Chris Byrd, and two brothers, and four sisters. Mr. Byrd owned and operated Byrdtown Masonry. He was a family man, and a friend to many, who will be remembered for his kindness, hugs, and his love for horses and mules. He was a member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, and enjoyed his Sunday Morning Bible Study at Pats Gas and Grocery with his cowboy friends.
Survivors include his daughters-in-law, Freda Byrd, and Tracey Byrd; grandchildren, Michelle Williams and husband, Michael; Kimberly Moore and husband, Brandon; and Kristen Byrd; great-grandchildren, Austin Williams, and Carter Moore; great-great-granddaughter, Emerson Kate; many nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to SECU Hospice House PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers, and are also receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Freda Byrd 203 Mingo Road, Benson, NC 27504.
