Claudia Hertel

Claudia Nell Hertel, age 86, of Brookville, Indiana passed Friday, June 6, 2025 at Shawneespring of Harrison in Harrison, Ohio. Born August 22, 1938 in Brookville, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Robert & Sarah (Reese) Smith. On June 24, 1961 she was united in marriage to Melvin H. Hertel, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2021. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brookville. In her leisure time she cherished time spent with her family; enjoyed scrapbooking, drawing and coloring, as well as crossword puzzles. Survivors include four children, Mike (Glenna) Hertel, Mark (Gina) Hertel all of Brookville, Indiana, Matt (Jamie) Hertel of Batesville, Indiana, Melanie Hertel of Aurora, Indiana; a son-in-law, John Monroe of Brookville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Ben Cummins, Bethany (Luke) Whalen, Sarah Monroe (Thomas Bonwell), Katraca (Jerry) Eversole, Tim Metcalfe; seven great-grandchildren, Jax Cummins, Lilah Cummins, Kolbrie Cummins, Cameron Metcalfe, Dylan Metcalfe, Emily Metcalfe, Jacksen Robinson; a sister, June Turco of Hamilton, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, Melvin, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda G. Monroe who died 11/4/2010, six sisters, Patricia Smith, Lettie Powers, Oceola Browning, Audrey Phillips, Leona Allen, Dorothy Riley; four brothers, William Smith, Leonard 'Dutch' Smith, Forrest D. Smith, Jim Smith. Family & friends may visit from 4 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville. Rev. Rob Cooley will officiate the Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
