Claudia Gertrude "Granny Gert; Miss Diddie; Aunt Diddie; "Did"; Gert" Logan

Claudia Gertrude Parrish Logan passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1920, in Sunburst, North Carolina. She was the third of seven children born to Samuel and Beaulah Parrish. When Claudia was eight years old, her family moved to Canton, North Carolina, where she attended a small local school.

She was a devoted wife of the late James Albert Logan of 56 years. Their union was blessed with four children: Claudia A. Hairston, B. Adeline Crable, James Harold Logan (deceased), and Jerrye Smith.

Affectionately known by many names – Granny Gert, Miss Diddie, Aunt Diddie, "Did", Gert, Gertrude, and Claudia – she was loved by all who knew her. A lifelong member of Harris Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Canton, NC, Claudia faithfully served in many capacities, including Deacon, Class Leaders, Missionary, Treasurer, and Leader of Leaders.

Claudia had a passion for cooking and baking. For many years, she delighted in hosting her pastors for Sunday dinners and preparing large, joyful family meals. She also enjoyed fishing and visiting yard sales.

Claudia was a blessing to her entire family. Her love was unconditional, but she never hesitated to remind her loved ones to live by the values they were taught.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Logan; son, James Harold Logan; granddaughter, Kresaundria Logan; great-grandson, James T. Logan; sisters, Annie B. Brown, Mae Peters, and Louise Miller; and brothers, Edward, Louis, and Nathaniel Parrish.

Claudia's legacy lives on through her three daughters; sister-in-law, Violet Parrish; eight grandchildren, James Scott Logan, Melony Cullins, Juan Logan, Charles Crable, Jr., Leslie Perry-Hanley (Sesric), Sandy Smith Jr. (Tangie), Claude Smith (Yemi) and Brandis Smith; twenty great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Logan will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Harris Chapel A.M. E. Zion Church. Pastor William E. Staley will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Logan will be interred at her final resting place at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde, NC
