Clay “Peanut” Anthony Austin, 66, of Buchanan, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence “Jake” Austin and Betsy Creamer Austin.
Peanut was a member of the Purgatory Mountain Chapter, Abate of Virginia. He lived in the moment and took life by the handlebars. He also enjoyed spending time in nature and collecting antiques.
Left to cherish Clay’s memory are his daughter, Cristen Austin (Matthew); son, Corey Austin (Stephanie); sisters, Sissy Austin and Sonya Newkirk (Ed); brother Terry Austin (Kathy); grandsons, Eli Doss and Gunner Bostrom; nieces, Catie, Natalie, and Amanda; and nephews, Forest, David, and Ben.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2 pm in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfh.com.
