Clayton Arnold Shultz passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the age of 42 while surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Clayton was born October 8, 1977 in Greenfield to Doug and Shela Shultz. He graduated from Eastern Hancock High School in 1996. After graduation he attended Joliet Junior college where he played football. He also attended IUPUI. Clayton worked as the In/Out of School Suspension Coordinator at Eastern Hancock. He enjoyed working with kids who needed a listening ear or a little extra motivation to make positive decisions. He believed everyone deserved a second chance and someone to care about them. Clayton loved all things Eastern Hancock. He passionately coached football, basketball, and track for nearly 21 years. When he wasn't coaching you could find him joking with kids, co-workers and friends or wrapping someone up in his famous "Shultz bear hug". He served his community proudly for more than 20 years. Clayton married the love of his life, Amber or "Ambi" as he affectionately called her on May 19, 2012 after 5 years of dating. They have 3 children: Connor, Zachary, and Abigail who were simply his everything. Clayton was an amazing and devoted husband who adored his wife, a loving and dedicated father to his three children, the most devoted son, best brother, and uncle who always knew how to have fun, and you'll never be able to find a better friend. Clayton will forever be remembered, loved and missed by his loving wife, Amber (Bennett) Shultz, children Connor, Zachary, and Abigail, parents Doug & Shela (Arnold) Shultz; sister Allison (Shawn) Frakes; brother-in-law Austin (Jenny) Miller; mother-in-law Doris Bowman; Nephews Landon Frakes, Brady Frakes, and Gavin Miller; several extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Frank and Lois (Addison) Arnold; his paternal grandparents Weldon and Vera (Holden) Shultz. A Celebration of Clayton's life, which was delayed due to Covid restrictions, will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Eastern Hancock Middle School, 10320E 250 N, Charlottesville, IN 46117. As a family we would like to thank Dr. Walling and all of the staff at Community North Hospital MRO/Cancer Center and Suburban Hospice for the amazing care, support, encouragement and friendship during and since Clayton's battle with cancer. The Clayton Shultz Foundation has been established for awarding scholarships to Eastern Hancock graduating seniors. Memorial contributions can be made payable to The Clayton Shultz Foundation.

Dear Schultz family, I offer my sincere condolences for your loss. It's been far too long since I last spoke to any of you or Clayton himself. So many of my fondest memories of my high school years include Clayton. I remember him as a great friend who loved his family and his community. It made so proud to see the man he became. He clearly impacted thousands of lives, mine included, and for that he and you should be very proud. I know that he can never be replaced, but I will carry many wonderful memories of Clayton as well as his example of what a friend, father, and mentor should be, with me forever.

I worked with Clayton in the 1980's when I worked at Eastern Hancock Elementary. He was a great kid and he showed enthusiasm and respect ....As it turned out, those atributes helped shape him for the great job he has done with the students of Eastern Hancock High School. The Copeland family sends our condolences to Clayton's family and friends.
