Cleta Jane Vogel, 92, of Marion (Sweetser), Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her home at Suite Living Senior Living, Marion.
Cleta was born on February 3, 1933, in St. Marys, Ohio, to the late William G. and Laura C. (Slemmons) Holtzapple. She graduated from Memorial High School in St. Marys with the Class of 1950. On April 27, 1952, she married, Thomas A. Vogel, in St. Marys. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2019.
Cleta worked for Oak Hill School Corporation as a payroll clerk. A devoted member of Sweetser United Methodist Church, she served faithfully as a pianist and organist. She loved giving piano lessons and enjoyed her students. Her hobbies included quilting and music, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement, Cleta and Tom cherished 34 years wintering at Anna Maria Island, Florida.
Cleta volunteered for many years at the St. Martin Community Center in Marion, where she cooked and served food for the needy. She also was very involved in the Sweetser United Methodist Church ladies ministries and was instrumental in their famous chicken and noodle dinner. Cleta loved her church family with all her heart. She was chosen for as Miss Sweetser in 2021.
She is survived by her children: Gregory (Sheila) Vogel, Patrick (Sarah) Vogel, Judy (Perry) Frank, Roger (Sarah) Vogel.
Grandchildren: Erin (Robert) Harlan, Jeff (Mandy) Vogel, Meghan Reinhard, Erich Vogel, Ryan (Beth) Frank, Nick (Kristy) Frank, Christin (Joe) Becker, Zach (Margaux) Vogel, Jacob (Caitlyn) Vogel, and Jessica (Daniel) Swihart
Great-grandchildren: Luci, Londyn, Lily, Lanie, Ryder, Malie, Blakely, Laila, Isabelle, Tessa, Gillian, Kennedy, Aurora, Felix, Ellie, Miriam, Kinsley and Edison.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria (Everette) Fannon and Carol (Ken) Hays.
A Life Celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Sweetser United Methodist Church, officiated by her grandsons Ryan Frank and Zach Vogel. Visitation will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
