Clifton Stephens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2024.
Clifton Mickey Stephens Received His Wings. On December 5,2024 Born October 11,1938 in St. Matthew South Carolina preceded by his late Parents: Effie Lou Johnson and John Stephens. He was also preceded by his two beloved grandsons, Joshua and Tyler Stephens, and his four siblings: Rudolph Stephens, Earl Stephens, Helen Glenn, and Ruby Johnson.
Clifton was the husband of 66 years to Sarah Haigler Stephens and from their union he was the father of eight biological children, and one bonus child. Clifton Stephens Jr., (Stamford), Helen Marie Stephens Davis /John Davis Jr. (Georgia), John Alan Stephens (Stamford), Elaine Stephens (Waterbury), Deborah Stephens (Stamford), Eric/Davette Stephens (Stamford), Cherry Stephens (East Hartford), Clinton Stephens (Trumbull) and his bonus daughter Dianne /Odell Thomas (Fayetteville NC)
Born and raised in South Carolina, Mickey moved to Stamford, Connecticut, after marrying Sarah and starting a family. He dedicated 27 years of service to Stamford Hospital, where he retired as the Director of the Laundry Department.
Mickey was known for his vibrant personality and love for adventure. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a proud member of the "Stamford Wheels" motorcycle club. He also had a passion for vintage cars, and his cherished black van earned him the CB handle "Mickey Mouse." Yet, perhaps his greatest joy was playing his guitar and singing the blues-often off-key, but always with heart. He and his son spent countless hours playing together in the family's converted garage, fondly called the "Fun House," where they created cherished memories with family and friends.
Mickey also had a love for sports, especially baseball, and founded Mickey's Robins, a women's softball team made up of talented players, including some of his daughters. He also ran a variety store and a pool hall, places where many gathered to enjoy good company and create lasting friendships.
He leaves behind his loving wife, children, and two remaining siblings who adored him: Joan Evans (Stamford) and Carlisle/Maryann Stephens (Bridgeport). He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Mickey's legacy of love, laughter, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

My favorite memories are ....
Coaching his sons John, Eric and Clinton in Baseball. Some of the greatest players ...and wonderful young people....that I ever coached in my 50 years! Clifton played in my 3 on 3 Basketball League...superstar! John worked for us at the GCC....and talked to me about playing guitar...that his Dad played the Blues! I sang at Helen´s wedding!!! Davette had a PrrKbat the GCC
Mr and Mrs Stephens were obviously great parents who raised wonderful, talented children! It was an honor to be a small part in their lives.
My prayers
