Clovis Leach Obituary

Clovis (Jasper) Edward Leach passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025 at All American Assisted Living in Kingston, NH. He recently had joyfully celebrated his 97th birthday surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on November 2, 1928, in Wallingford, VT, son of the late Alfred Leach and Betsey (Harrington) Leach.
Clovis grew up in Wallingford, one of three sons in his family. A graduate of Wallingford High School, Class of 1947, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. From 1948 to 1952, he proudly served during the Korean Conflict as a plane radar man, completing basic training at the Naval Station Great Lakes and advanced training in Jacksonville, FL, before serving overseas in Africa and Italy.
It was at a wedding among mutual friends that Clovis met the love of his life, June Vreeland. They were married on July 12, 1959, and shared 66 years of marriage, raising four children together in Wallingford.
Clovis was a lifelong learner and educator. He attended the University of Vermont before graduating from Castleton State College in 1969. Professionally, he was a dedicated toolmaker for General Electric in Rutland, VT, working on aircraft engines. During his time with GE, he took a three-year break to teach science and math at Proctor High School-a role that reflected his passion for learning and helping others grow. In 2006, Clovis and June moved to Kingston, NH to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Faith and serving the community were cornerstones of Clovis's life, living each day to the fullest. He was an active member of the Wallingford Congregational Church, where he served as church clerk and deacon. He was involved with many activities and organizations: Wallingford High School Alumni, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Chipman Lodge #52 of the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Wallingford Rotary, Wallingford Town Moderator, sewer plant operator, and the Wallingford Rescue Squad. After moving to New Hampshire, he joined the First Congregational Church of Kingston where he served as the chair of the Board of Trustees. He was also a proud member of the Gideon Masonic Lodge in Kingston, and the Eastern Star (now with Trinity Lodge in Hampton).
Above all, Clovis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He found joy in simple pleasures-tending his vegetable garden, enjoying a round of golf, making pancakes and spending time with his family, who meant the world to him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Stephen and Earl.
Clovis is survived by his beloved wife, June Leach; his children, Amy Leach and her husband, William Matern, Michelle and her husband, Joe Walsh, April and her husband, Bill Pettengill, and Dana Leach and his wife, Carolyn Marquis; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as 2 nephews and 1 niece.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Kingston, 6 Church St., Kingston, NH. Family and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at the church.
Burial with military honors will take place in the Scottsville Cemetery, Danby, VT, at a later date in the spring.
Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made in his memory to Brookhaven Hospice at https://www.brookhavenhospice.com/ or the First Congregational Church of Kingston, NH Building Fund at https://kingstonfcc.org/visit-us/contact
