Clyde Earl Bracken Jr., husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 2, 2025, after a period of declining health. He was born on October 25, 1930, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to country, and commitment to the law.
Clyde attended the University of Mississippi, where he earned both his undergraduate degree and his Bachelor of Laws in 1956. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, stationed in Korea. His time in service deepened his lifelong passion for history, which he pursued avidly through reading and storytelling. Friends and family will remember his gift for bringing history to life, whether recounting world events or sharing his own lived experiences.
After his military service, Clyde embarked on a long and successful legal career. He practiced law in a variety of settings, including large firms in Houston and Dallas, the district attorney's office in Houston, and ultimately his own litigation practice in Dallas, and he dedicated nearly 40 years to the practice. His dedication to justice and his clients was unwavering, and he earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.
Beyond his professional life, Clyde was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church, where he found fellowship and service for many years.
Clyde is survived by his loving wife, Mary Judith Allen Bracken; his four children, Patricia Bracken (Steve Manson) Dallas, TX., Catherine Bracken (Charles Bell) Dallas, TX., Kent Bracken (Carol) Dallas, TX., and Douglas Bracken (Shelley) Dallas, TX.; and five cherished grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, and the wisdom he shared.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 3pm in the afternoon at Suncreek United Methodist Church, 1517 W. McDermott Drive, Allen, TX 75013. Flowers can be sent to the church Saturday morning.
