Tad Gidcomb Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home - Preston Road on Mar. 16, 2026.
Tad Hamilton Gidcomb passed into his eternal life on February 25, 2026, with his family by his side after a 2½-year struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which he faced with immense courage and dignity.

Tad was born on November 14, 1961, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. After graduating from Hot Springs High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he was a brother of the Sigma Nu Fraternity (Gamma Epsilon Chapter).

Following graduation, Tad moved to Dallas, Texas, where he built both his career and a life surrounded by family and friends. He worked for Verizon (formerly GTE) for more than 22 years as an IT Specialist and later continued his career with Qorvo until his retirement in June 2024. Throughout his career, Tad was highly regarded by colleagues not only for his technical expertise but also for his patience, kindness, and generous spirit.

Tad had many talents and interests. He enjoyed woodworking and do-it-yourself projects, renovating his first home and later the home he shared with his family and their beloved pets. He could fix or repair just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was also an avid tennis player, and when he wasn't on the court he could often be found watching matches on television.

Tad loved fishing on the lake with his beloved dog, Ellie Mae, and spending time in Arkansas fishing, hiking, and biking with his nephew and his Sigma Nu brothers. Above all, Tad was a devoted husband and father and could not have been prouder of his family. Among the most cherished memories were family trips to Maui and the many years spent cheering on his daughter at volleyball tournaments, faithfully recording every match.

During the final year and a half of his illness, it became especially clear how deeply Tad was loved. He and his family did not go through this journey alone. So many friends stayed closely connected through phone calls and texts, and many visited from near and far. They helped with "honey-do" tasks, provided meals, and most importantly shared the fellowship Tad cherished so much. Their support sustained Tad and his family and will continue to mean so much in the years ahead.

Tad was simply the best of the best in every respect. Although he will be deeply missed by all whose life he touched his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved and cherished him.

Tad is survived by his wife, Velma ("Vel"); his daughter, Jenna; his brother, John Gidcomb; his nephew, Jimmy Gidcomb; his niece, Carrie White; his great-nieces, Estee White and Molly Margaret Gidcomb; his sister-in-law, Nancy Gidcomb; and extended family. Tad was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ann Gidcomb, and his brothers, Michael Gidcomb and Jim Gidcomb.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Charlin Health Services for the wonderful hospice care provided to Tad. Special gratitude goes to Simon, Summer, Sara, and Terrie for their compassionate and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tad's honor may be made to the ALS Association Dallas Chapter or to a charity of your choice.
