Byron D. Gidcomb passed away at Life Care Center of Columbia on Tuesday, November 18. Born on June 30, 1935, to Clarence and Sadie Chaney Gidcomb, Bryon was raised in Santa Fe and graduated from Santa Fe High School. Upon returning to Maury County Byron began a 27-year career at Stauffer/ICI Chemical in Mt. Pleasant, retiring as a supervisor in the E&I Department. Byron was a lifelong member of the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School, and a member of the Mt. Pleasant County Club. He was a student of genealogy and Civil War history, but his most prominent role in retirement was as a full-time grandfather to his grandson Matthew.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Elsie Thompson Gidcomb, a sister, Mary Nelle Davis, a nephew, Eric Primm, and special friend, Kay Neeley. He is survived by his sister, Kay Zimmerman, his sons, Barry (Debra) and Larry (Kimberly Haliburda) Gidcomb, his aforementioned grandson, Matthew Martin Gidcomb, his brother-in-law and great friend Richard Davis, and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation for Byron Gidcomb will be on Friday, November 21, from 4:00-7:00pm at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Oakes & Nichols on Saturday, November 22, at 11:00am with Brothers Joe Bowers and Larry McGranahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Davis, Jeff Davis, Chuck Davis, Jason Primm, Shane Fox, and Marlin Arnold. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Sneed, Norman Harris, Henry Harris, Randy Maxwell, Tracy Maxwell, Clint Steward, Carl Sellers, Allen Neeley, Paul Neeley, Members of the Santa Fe United Methodist Charge, and members of the Mt. Pleasant Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Santa Fe Cemetery Fund.
