Aileen Greer Akin, 100, died January 1, 2026 at her residence in Columbia, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 4, 2026 at 2:30 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

She was born in Rives, Tennessee and the daughter of the late Horace Eugene “Bud” Greer and the late Vera Gray Greer. Aileen graduated from Santa Fe High School and worked for a short period of time as a switch board operator for Bell South Telephone Company. She was a long time member of Columbia First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Jan Akin Ford of Columbia; son and daughter in law, Dr. Bill Akin and Sheila Akin of Nashville; step daughters, Lesa Young (Buck) of Columbia and Martha Polk (Doug) of Cary, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Dr. Will Akin (Whitney), Elizabeth Akin Townsend (Collier), Sara Ford Parker and Rachel Ford Fuller; step grandchildren, Jay Alderson (Leila), Lindsay Edelen (Brian), Emily Graney (Kevin), Lucy Wahlman (Matt), Tom Young (Delaney), Shaye Polk, and Daniel Polk (Rebecca); 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands William Hughes Akin on August 6, 1980 and Howard Eugene “Snooks” Alderson on November 23, 2020; step son, Michael Howard Alderson; sister, Flora Hayes; brother, L.C. McCloud.
Pallbearers will be Will Akin, Buck Young, Collier Townsend, Brandon Parker, Quinn Parker, Hal Collier.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Hospice Compassus and her caregivers, Donna Hawkins, Bethany Asbury, Patricia Asbury and Teresa Brooks.
