Born on June 25, 1955, in Columbia, Tennessee, Cathey was the daughter of the late Horace “Dick” Lindsey and the late Myrtle Catherine Lemay Lindsey. She married the love of her life, Joel, on August 14, 1971, and together they shared fifty-four beautiful years. A devoted mother, Cathey stayed home to care for their children, Mary Beth and John, until later pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher. In 1998, she began her teaching career at Santa Fe School, where she served for twenty-two years, before spending her final three years at Mt. Pleasant Middle School. She retired in 2023.
In her younger years, Cathey enjoyed sewing and lovingly made many of her daughter’s dresses. She also found joy in reading. When able, she cherished time spent at the river and especially loved vacationing in the mountains. Above all, Cathey treasured her family and the joy of being with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth (Brian) Lovett of Mt. Pleasant, brother, Richard (Diane) Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant, grandchildren, Mary Catherine Lovett (Luke Terry), Jason Edward Lovett, honorary grandchildren, Ashtin, Preston, and Maggie Lacy, brother in law, Terry (Tamara) Kennedy, sister in law, Sharon Kennedy, and nephews, Anthony (Rachel) Lindsey, Jeff (Whitney) Kennedy, Matthew (Sonya) Kennedy, Dan (Laura) Kennedy, and Adam Kennedy.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Lee Kennedy, and brother-in-law, Jeff David Kennedy.
