Mr. James Fred Gidcomb, age 91, a resident of Summertown, formerly of Columbia, passed away Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Friday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A native of Columbia, Fred was born on December 15, 1931, and was the son of the late Elbert James Gidcomb and the late Evie Ann Gibson Gidcomb. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked many years for Hall & Knox Mining Company in Mt. Pleasant before retiring. His passion was farming and along with his work as a farmer, he loved hunting, fishing, and riding horses.
He is survived by his children, Peggy Gidcomb of South Port, TN, James David (Rita) Gidcomb of Columbia, TN, Bonnie Louise Moore of Savannah, TN, Freddie Lee (Doris) Gidcomb of Lawrence County, TN, twelve grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-eight years, Mary Jean Gidcomb on November 17, 2014, son, Jeff Clay Gidcomb, daughter, Kathie Kay Toone, and sister, Aileen Lovett.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Craig Bobo, Jason Tomlin, Johnny McGaw, Buddy Gidcomb, Mike Whitley, and Josh Velasquez.
Honorary pallbearers will include his Cedar Creek Camp friends and family.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Caris Healthcare for their tremendous care and compassion during this difficult time.
