Clyde Giles

Clyde Giles, age 100, passed away Sunday morning, January 11, 2026, at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas.

He was born on March 13, 1925, in Leoma, Tennessee, to Velma Antnett (Gregg) and Julius Abner Giles. Clyde later moved to Breckenridge, Texas eventually moving to Satanta, Kansas, where he made his home and raised his family. On December 30, 1949, he married Betty Jo Littlejohn in Ulysses, Kansas. She preceded him in death.

Clyde worked for many years at the Columbia Carbon Black Plant. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a proud veteran. He was also a longtime member of the Satanta American Legion Post #276.

In his free time, Clyde enjoyed watching old westerns and game shows on television. He liked to read and looked forward to visiting with friends on the weekends or spending time with his family. He also enjoyed camping and fishing trips to Glen Elder and Coldwater Lake. Clyde liked to tinker in the garage and had a talent for woodworking. One of his proud accomplishments was remodeling the basement of the family home.

He is survived by his son, Clyde David Giles of Breckenridge, TX; daughters, Leah Galbraith, Susan Grant, and Stephanie Nimz, all of Satanta, KS; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Roberta Lewis of Liberal, KS, and Anita Brown of Sublette, KS.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Giles; and sisters, Jettie Lea Giles, Margie Hagerman, and Mary Day; brothers Aubra Giles, Orville "Bud" Giles, and J.A. Giles, Jr.

There will be no public viewing, as cremation has taken place. A private family gathering and interment with military honors will be held this week at Dudley Township Cemetery.
