Clyde, of Farmington Hills, passed into eternal life at home on Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on June 5, 1932, in
Farmington, MI, to the late Clyde Sr. and Elizabeth (Freeman), Clyde lived a life marked by dedication, love, and humor.
On September 1, 1956, Clyde married the love of his life, Mary (Dishman), at Clarenceville United Methodist Church, beginning a partnership that spanned over 56 years until Mary's passing on February 4, 2013. Their union was a testament to love and commitment, weathering the trials of life with grace and strength.
Clyde enjoyed a long and distinguished career with Ford Motor Co. as a timing coordinator, retiring after 37 years of unwavering dedication. Known for his incredible work ethic, Clyde never took a sick day, earning the reputation of being one of Ford's most loyal employees. Since serving his country in the US Army, he truly embodied the spirit of a true American patriot and was deeply dedicated to his family, country and work.
A man of few words, Clyde's quick wit and unique sense of humor made him endearing to those who knew him. His family lovingly described him as a "funny duck" with a peculiar personality that brought joy and laughter into their lives. He was a good provider, always supportive and encouraging, ensuring his family was well taken care of.
Clyde was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of Clarenceville United Methodist Church in Livonia. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and providing strength in all he did. He expressed his love for music through his participation in a barbershop chorus, the church choir, and the Wesleyan Quartet, where his voice added harmony and joy.
Clyde had a passion for jigsaw puzzles, having solved thousands over the years, and his love for sports was evident in his enthusiasm for Michigan football and Detroit Tigers baseball. His dedication, compassion, and love for his family and community will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Clyde is survived by five devoted children, Major Cherri Hobbins, Michele (John) Morris, Bruce (Kim) Hobbins, Keith (Angela) Hobbins, and Kelley (Mark) Raby; 14 grandchildren, Sean (Nicole) and Steven Morris, Michael (Christina) Hobbins, Olivia (Nathan) Kelsey, Nicholas Hobbins, Rachelle (Steve) Bennecke, Kailee (Dan) Chichila, Kyle (Andrea) Hobbins, Kristopher (Allison) Hobbins, Collin, Grace and Natalie Albrecht, Rebekah (Joe) Leavens, and Stacey Raby; and 16 great-grandchildren and another due in September.
Clyde's funeral ceremony, including military funeral honors, is planned for Monday, July 15, at 12 Noon (visitation 11 am-12 Noon) at Clarenceville United Methodist Church, 20300 Middlebelt Road, (btw. 7-8 Mile Roads), Livonia.
Interment will follow at Redford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes are suggested to The Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club, or the American Bible Society.
