Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel & Cremation ServicesClyde Harold “Jay” Johnston, 78, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Weatherford, Texas.
Clyde was born on June 30, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, to Francis Eiland and Martha Horton Johnston. He grew up in Hurst and Oak Cliff, Texas, and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. He attended the University of North Texas, where he received his bachelor’s degree, and graduated from Troy State University with a master’s degree.
He made his career as an accountant for the Army Air Force Exchange Service and traveled extensively for his job, including time living in the Philippines and Japan, as well as California, Alabama, and Texas. Clyde enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and being with family and friends. He was a dog lover and always enjoyed having pets in his home. Clyde had a great sense of humor and loved laughing with his family.
Clyde married Susan Kay Coddington Johnston on May 4, 1974, and they enjoyed 51 loving years together. He brought two children, Christie Renee’ and Philip Joseph Johnston, into the marriage, and he and Susan also became the parents of two sons, Brian Taylor and Matthew Eiland Johnston.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Matthew and Brian Johnston; brothers, Sydney, Jimmy, and Robert Johnston; and a great-grandson, Garrett English.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Johnston; daughter, Christie Johnston; son, Philip Johnston and wife, Jonna; grandchildren, David English, Jessica English, Rebecca English, Andrew Johnston, Ashlyn Johnston, Amanda Johnston, and Eiland Jay Johnston; and sister, Lisbeth Sue Reese. Clyde is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family members who were all special to him. Additionally, he will be missed by his much-loved Chihuahua, Abby.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, or the Cornerstone Community Action Head Start Program.
