Clyde R. "Ronnie" Vandergrift, 87, of Fairmont passed away at his home on August 09, 2024. Ronnie was born in Fairmont on March 03, 1937, the son of the late Clyde J. and Zella Vandergrift.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont Hight School and went on to serve his country in the United Sates Army as a Communication Technician.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Marie and his children, Teresa Hartman and her husband William, Lori Sumerel and her husband Keith, Diana Allen and her husband Rocky; Amie Carpenter and her husband Todd; Richard "Lee" Carnes and his wife Mary; brothers Marvin Vandergrift and his wife Margie and Larry Vandergrift; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a loving stepmother Alice Garlow Vandergrift, sister Christine and brothers Richard Vandergrift, Gerald Vandergrift, Donald Vandergrift and Darrell Vandergrift.
He will remember most for his love of his family. He will also be remembered for his love of music and bowling. He was a member of the Wheeling Jamboree being known as The Vandergrift Brothers, who have been inducted into the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame. Ronnie loved bowling and time with his friends. He was involved in the Youth Bowling Leagues and has been inducted into the National Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Professional Bowlers Association.
Family and friends will be received at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor K.P. Musgrove officiating.
