Glenda Kay Vandergrift, born on July 27, 1945, in Mt Vernon, MO, entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2025. A cherished and beloved member of the Carterville community, where she resided for 55 years, Glenda was a beacon of love, dedication, support, and humor. The poet Maya Angelou once said, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." This quote perfectly encapsulates Glenda's life, as she lived it with an abundance of these qualities and shared them generously with all who knew her.

Glenda's professional life was marked by dedication and service to her community. As a City Clerk for the City of Carterville, she worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of city affairs. Glenda was also a devoted Secretary for the Carterville Cemetery Association. Beyond her work, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like reading and crochet, hobbies that reflected her love for learning and creativity. Glenda's greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. To them, she was not just a grandmother but a friend, confidante, and source of boundless love and support. Glenda was a rock, a guiding light, and the heart of her family.

Glenda is survived by her loving children, Glenna Vandergrift, Mikel (Becky) Vandergrift and Matthew (Misty) Vandergrift, 5 grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. She now joins in heavenly rest her parents, Herbert and Elva Long; siblings, Paul, Bob, Steve, Virginia, Ruth and Glenna. Glenda was a woman of great strength and an even greater heart. Her funny anecdotes, warm smiles, and unwavering support will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

In Lieu of flowers please make donations payable to the American Red Cross or the Carterville Cemetery Association.
