Coby Griffin Obituary

Granny Coby as she was affectionately known by her family was born by some accounts on April 30, 1933 but officially on May 1, 1933 in the Willette Community of Macon County to the late Sylvester and Gladys Cope Rittenberry. She retired from Thomas Industries. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like her daily watching of Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful and a good fish sandwich from Rise and Shine Café but most of all she loved being Granny Coby to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her son Donald Edward Cannon; husband Almon Griffin, siblings Henry, Paul and James Rittenberry; sister Linda Coffman and infant brother Lester Rittenberry.
Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her three daughters : Debbie Cole and husband Ray, Diane Austin and husband David and Barbara Heady
Three grandchildren: Stephanie Poston and husband Elliot, Ashley Story and husband Chris, Chad Austin and wife Tiffany
Great-grandchildren: Emma and Eli Poston, Easton and Louie Austin
A host of nieces and nephews also survive
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home.
Ray Cole, Elliot Poston, Chris Story, Chad Austin, David Austin and Shane Rittenberry will serve as pallbearers.
