Cody Bogard, 37, of Grinnell, IA, passed away surrounded by family on March 20, 2024.
A celebration of life will be held at Grinnell Eagles Club on Cody's birthday, March 29, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The family asks friends and family to wear Iowa Hawkeye attire and in lieu of cards for condolences bring a birthday card to celebrate Cody's life. Drinks and food will be provided.
Memorials may be designated to Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO BOX 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Cody was born on March 29, 1986 to Keith Bogard and Diahn McGriff. He was raised in New Sharon and then moved to Oskaloosa, where he attended PreK-12th grade. After high school, Cody attended Indian Hills CC in Ottumwa, IA. While still in school Cody was recruited by Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, where he ended up working for nearly 19 years.
Growing up Cody enjoyed the Ninja Turtles, watching South Park, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, going to Chicago Cubs games, playing video games and spending time with pint, his therapy cat. As an adult Cody enjoyed fishing, cooking out, eating at Burger King, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, gaming and building computers, Mexican nights with family and spending time with his partner Amber.
Cody will be remembered for being very intelligent, loyal, witty, genuine, focused, and reliable. He wanted to be remembered as "A man of many words but a speaker of few." COWABUNGA!
Cody is survived by his mother Dee (Ed) Ziegler; his father Keith Bogard; his partner, Amber Bartachek; his siblings, Jamie (Jake) Edmundson, and Jessie Bogard; his grandparents, Dick and Pam McGriff and Alice Bogaards; nieces and nephew, Ella, Emmett and Ensley; aunts and uncles, Darren and Stacy McGriff, Earl and Sheryl Bogard, Tammy and Kristopher Sauer, Chris and Luara Moothart, and Caroline Shook; cousins, Paige, Tyler, Lexi, Racel, Elsa, Melissa, Michelle, Aiden, Riley, Reid, Karen, Kelly and Kevin; great aunts and uncles; Doris Butcher, Linda Eklofe, Danny and Anna Clark, and Donnie and Sherry Clark.
He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Lucille Bogard and Ken Bogaards and his great grandparents, Bill and Marjorie McGriff, and George and Dixie Clark.
