ELIDA -- Cody Daniel James Gear, (40), of Elida passed away on October 9, 2025, at Lima Memorial Hospital, after being struck by a truck while out walking early Thursday morning.
He was born on August 19, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, to Donald Gear and Teresa Gillenwater.
Cody is survived by his stepmother, Mariam Gear and eight siblings: Donald Gear II, Chris Gear, Mary Ellen Gear, William Gear III, Sierra Gear Reeves, Mariam Gear Shady, Heather Gear Bradish, and Harley Gear. He was a loving uncle to 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his grandparents, Bill and Mary Ellen Gear; his aunt, Janice S. Oliver; and cousin, Rodd Livesay.
Cody was a King James Bible believing man, who wasn't afraid to preach to anyone! He was an experienced floor installer, who laid floors and witnessed alongside Pastor Don Ayers for 15 years. Cody loved disc golf chess and vintage video games, skateboarding, and trading card games. He had recently fallen in love with painting and woodworking. Cody could make almost anything! Cody attended Marion High school of Marion Indianna, and then later got his GED. He completed Seminary school at Hope Institute of the Scriptures in Sylvania, Ohio
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at County Line Church, 4227 N. Hardin Rd., Harrod, Ohio. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. A dinner will be provided after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
