Cody Grantlin Jackson was born on December 3, 1981 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a musician, gifted at the piano and trumpet (difficult to tell which he loved more) and this led him to studying music at the University of Kansas after high school. He had already begun a journey with yoga and meditation but he found a community in Lawrence that expanded this road for him. A traveler, much like his father, he studied abroad in Paris, hitchhiked to Rainbow Gatherings annually for many years, practiced yoga, body work, and stayed at ashrams all over the world.
His love of existential exploration and practicing Buddhism resulted in a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Kansas. He then attended Naropa University and earned an MA in Clinical Mental Health. Through his travels, he became a professional musician, yoga instructor, massage therapist and psychotherapist. He loved living in Boulder and his work as a therapist, working especially with children and young adults. Cody created the most wonderful community around him. He loved video games, watching NBA, cooking with friends, ecstatic dance and playing music. He loved so much and so many people and so many things.
In March 2025, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. The tumor took him down quickly. He passed away August 7, 2025 at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, CO. He was surrounded by his mom, siblings and a couple of his closest friends, as they sang to him and held him and told him he was loved. He did not suffer and he went with grace. He was 43 years old. In the days and months leading up to his passing, the outpouring of community and support for Cody was incredible. He expressed so much joy and gratitude and even disbelief at all of the ways people showed up for him during this time.
Cody is survived by his mom, Dana Jackson, aunt Chris Jackson, uncles Steve and Doug, siblings Jason Rueschhoff (Jennifer), Amy Rueschhoff Ballinger (Rick), and multiple nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, all in the Lawrence, KS/Kansas City, MO area and sibling Katherine Singogo and nephew Zion Singogo of Asheville, NC. He is additionally survived by uncle Tom Taylor and family of Oregon and aunts Sue Beulke and Pat DeVries in Minnesota and their families, whom he was close with over the years. Cody was preceded in death by his dad, John Grantlin Jackson (Nickerson, KS), his grandma, Jean Bonham (Hutchinson, KS) his uncle, William Greg Jackson (Sterling, KS) and grandma Betty Jackson (Minneapolis, MN).
Most notably, though, is his chosen family in Boulder, CO., where he spent the happiest years of his life. Too many to name, the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who loved him and whom he loved, especially those closest to him (you know who you are). Thank you for loving him fiercely and showing up for him when he needed you most.
