Cody Del Pourier was born on February 24, 1978 in Pine Ridge, SD to Curtiss Pourier and Ruth (Big Crow) Pourier. Cody made his journey to the Spirit World on January 11, 2025 at the Monument Health in Rapid City, SD.
Cody was raised north of Sharps Corner, where he was surrounded by the vast beauty of the badlands, as well as the loving guidance of his grandparents, Hobert and Olivia Pourier. Cody grew up learning the values of the cowboy way and the land. He could always be found riding horses or exploring the badlands behind their family homes.
Cody attended Our Lady of Lourdes for grade school, later transferring to Little Wound School where he completed his high school years. He was an active student, participating in sports such as football, track, the rodeo club, and held school records in track. He was known for his fun-loving spirit, quick wit, and his ability to connect with anyone. Whether he was joking around, teasing, or offering words of encouragement, Cody always ensured that others felt welcomed and cared for.
After graduating from Little Wound High School in May 1996, Cody enlisted in the United States Army on January 3, 1997. He served honorably as an 88MIP Motor Transport Operator in the U.S. Army Transport Corps. During his time in the military, he was stationed in various locations and proudly earned numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Parachutist Badge as part of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He also graduated from courses such as Combat Lifesaver, Warrior Leaders, and Motor Transport Operators. During his active services Cody fought in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2002 and Operation Iraq Freedom 2003-2004. Cody's time in the military was also when he welcomed of his cherished daughter Ricky Raine Pourier and son Tain Hobert Pourier. Cody was a dedicated father and protector, always making sure that Ricki and Tain knew how much they meant to him.
After being honorably discharged from the Army on April 26, 2008, Cody moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where he continued his service in the North Dakota National Guard for another four years being Honorably Discharged in April 2014. Cody relocated to Rapid City. He chose to further his education by enrolling at AETech Institution and earning his electrical certification in December 2013. Cody continued his education at Western Dakota Technical Institute with an AA in Computer Aid and Drafting in 2018. Cody ended his educational journey with a Cyber Security Certificate in 2023.
In 2012, Cody welcomed his baby daughter Olivia Diem Pourier who he later gave the nickname Hunnies after his grandmother Olivia Black Elk Pourier. Cody's final years were spent with his family, creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren.
Cody will always be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help others, and his boundless love for his family.
He leaves behind his children, Ricky, Tain, and Olivia, his mother Ruth, his partner Keisha, grandchildren Orion Del, Emoriy Moon, Tesla, and his siblings, Natalie Pourier, Myron Pourier, Sr., Cash Pourier, Richard Christensen, and Wiley Steele; along with a vast network of military brothers and sisters, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
