Dororthy Rose Tail was born on August 1, 1938 in Pepper Creek near Manderson, SD to Adam Protector and Esther (Flying Hawk) Protector. Dorothy made her journey to the Spirit World on August 28, 2025 at her home near Wounded Knee, SD.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Martha (Andre) Protector, Priscilla Tail, Ella (David) Lays Bad, Lula Tail, Mary (Ben) Tail, and Crystal (Stanley) Tail; son, Curtis Bald Eagle; sister, Evelyn Protector; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; cousin, Brenda Protector; nieces, Laweka White Hawk, Charity Waters, Miranda Short Bear, Heather Protector-her mother, Goldie Tobacco, Betty Lou Two Two, Natasha Two Two, Florence Two Bulls, Loraine Yellow Boy, Renita Yellow Boy, Cynthia Stands, Eula Yellow Boy, and Roberta Yellow Boy; and nephew, Charles Waters, Jr., Frank Yellow Boy, Pete Stands, Jr., Norman Dale Red Star, Cameron Red Star, Coree Short Bear, Kandan American Horse, Brennan American Horse, Everet Yellow Boy, Jr., and Russell Running Hawk, Sr. & Family,

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Adam Protector and Esther (Flying Hawk) Protector; spouse, Delbert Tail, Sr.; sons, Baby Boy Tail, Delbert Tail, Jr., and Elvis Tail; daughters, Gertrude, Jacqueline, Adele, and Faith Tail; hunka sons, Larry Bear Killer, Sr. and Everet Sanchez; great grandson, Gage Big Crow; grandsons, William Buckman and David Lays Bad, Jr.; grandparents, Lucy Ten Fingers-Flying Hawk and Felix Flying Hawk, great grandmother, Louise Defender; brothers, Leonard Protector, Dawson Protector, Emerson Protector, Lloyd Protector, & Albert Protector; sister, Rosalyn Protector; uncles, Alexander Protector, Albert Flying Hawk, Ernest Flying Hawk, Andrew Flying Hawk, and David Flying Hawk; aunts, Louise Flying Hawk-Black Tail Deer, Stella Flying Hawk-Black Bear, and Lucy Protector; nieces, Helen Flying Hawk, Candace Stands, Abigail Yellow Boy, and Charity Yellow Boy; nephew, Melvin Quiver; and cousins, Larry Quiver, Everette, Richard, Wilson, & Florence Yellow Boy-Brave.
