It is with heavy hearts that we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Cody Cowan Powell, who left this world far too soon on August 16, 2024, at the age of 40. Born on July 20, 1984, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Mr. Thomas William Powell and Mrs. Ramona Elaine (Pemberton) Thoroughman.
Cody's journey began in the vibrant town of Ringling, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and friends. A proud graduate of the class of 2002, he embraced his education with enthusiasm, later pursuing general studies at both Murray State College and East Central University. His thirst for knowledge was only matched by his love for the great outdoors. Whether it was casting a line for catch-and-release fishing or hitting the gym, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A fervent Miami Dolphins fan, Cody's passion for football was a testament to his spirited nature.
While Cody faced personal losses, including the passing of his beloved father, Tommy Powell, and brother, Bodey Powell, along with his grandparents and cherished aunts and uncle, he carried their memory as a guiding light in his life. He leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted mother, Ramona Thoroughman of Wilson; Aunt, Toy Davila and husband Starky of Wilson; Uncles, Kirby Pemberton and wife Shay of Cornish, R.D. Powell and wife Shirley of Wilson, Carl Powell and wife Jenette of Wilson, and Gary Ray Powell; stepbrothers, Laramye Thoroughman and Ty Thoroughman special cousins, Madison and Rani King of Ringling; numerous other cousins, other family, and many friends.
A service honoring Cody's life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling, with Bro. Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Ringling Memorial Cemetery, where friends and family can gather to pay their final respects.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday evening at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Ringling, allowing all who knew Cody to come together, share stories, and find comfort in one another.
