Colette T. Stanton Athans, “Musha”, 102 years old of New Lenox, Illinois, entered peacefully into eternal life on February 17, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late William Athans. Survived by her children, Sharon Athans Stratton, Karen Athans, Charles (the late Beth) Athans, Colleen (Jim Kestel) Athans Sexton, Patrick (Tammi) Athans and Carolyn (Don) Athans Denton.
Grandmother to Bridget Stratton, Sarah (Jerson) Sexton Martinez, Tyler Denton, Luke (Danielle) Athans, Courtney (Brent) LaPonsey, Celeste (Rob) Sexton Mangano, Lindsey (Ronald) Uccardi II, Christopher Athans, Olivia (Peter) Denton Koopman, Kaitlyn (Chris) Koenig, Charles (Emma) Athans and Grace Denton.
Great Grandmother to Daniel Athans, Galileo Martinez Sexton, Aaron Athans, Isidoro Martinez Sexton, Fiona Koopman, Josephine Uccardi, Truus Koopman, Ronald Uccardi III, Riley Athans, Killian Koopman, Gavin Athans, Delaney Uccardi and Colette Athans.
Survived by her Sister-In-Law, Helen (Hogan) Stanton and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Katherine McGreal Stanton, her siblings, Marie (Nora) and James Walsh, Katherine/ Sister Mary Samuel RSM, Joseph and Marita Stanton, Edward Stanton, Genevieve and Frank Ryan, John and Mary Lou Stanton, Thomas Stanton, William and LaVerne Stanton, Helen, Rita and Walter Stanton. Her Mother-In-Law Josephine Farley Athans, In-Laws Robert and Marion Athans, Marian and Martin Wagner.
Colette was born on the South side of Chicago. She attended Sacred Heart Grammar school and graduated from Mercy High School. Colette was a lifelong member of the V. F. W. Post 9545 New Lenox and a familiar face at the Friday night Fish Fry up until 2019 where everyone referred to her as “Musha”. A faithful member of St Jude Catholic Church and the CCW. She taught the second grade Religious Ed class for several years up to the early 2000s. The Village of New Lenox honored her by naming the street across from her home on Haven Avenue after her as a result of her many years of Community service.
A Memorial service will be held at Kurtz Funeral Home in New Lenox, Illinois on February 25,2026 from 2-8pm. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 241 West 2nd Street, New Lenox, Illinois on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Private interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Friday, February 27.
