A love story. A boy met a girl; they fell in love, grew up, and created a world together.
Early on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Colin passed from this life into eternity, ascending to join the ancestors. Born in Pointe-à-Pierre Trinidad in 1962, the year the country gained its independence, Colin Newton Wilson was the only child of Harry Newton and Stephanie Adelaide (Daniel) Wilson. His father described him as being "born with a mustache." Serious, creative, and inquisitive, he made of his brilliant mind a distinguished career in the practice of law, with admissions to multiple state bars and the United States Court of International Trade.
He and his parents emigrated from the Caribbean to New Jersey in the late 1960s. Colin graduated from Orange High School, Temple University's School of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts, and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. The young associate practiced in New York and New Jersey before opening a firm primarily supporting emerging businesses, Wilson, Jones & Campbell.
A former member of Major Taylor Cycling Club, Colin participated in Century Rides between Connecticut and New Jersey. He taught both children to ride their bikes and convinced his wife to complete two NYC Five Boro Bike Tours. He enjoyed tennis, chess, and backgammon, travel, and driving his convertible around town or across the US. His close circle of friends, some of more than 40 years, will remember his sage advice, love of jazz and entertaining, summer nights spent at the Montclair Jazz Festival, and spending time with family.
Colin was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rochelle, their children Adia and Mekki, and his beloved boxer, Obuasi. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family will miss his warmth and dry wit.
Maya Angelou wrote, "Great souls die and our reality, bound to them, takes leave of us." I already miss the man who dazzled me, stole my heart, and made memories that still take my breath away. I will love you until my heart stops. Thank you for our beautiful life. Rest in peace.

I am saddened to stumble upon and read of my old friend and HS classmate Colin´s passing. Although we have not seen one another since crossing paths in Philly, he at Temple and me at UPENN, I remember him in our youth as a brilliant mind, a progressive intellectual, a heady `footballer´, a proud Trinidadian, who, being full of `well informed´ opinions, and was always at the ready for a heady debate. Our bygone school days, with our buddies, were care free, innocent, and fun!

May his passing reminds us of pace of life and our charge to live it with gusto and in the service of others, and may his loved ones, in their solace and mourning, celebrate him, and what reads as a life well lived. Rest well old classmate.
