Mrs. Colleen Slater Duckworth, 70, of Stillmore unexpectedly passed away Thursday morning, August 14, 2025. She was born on October 12, 1954, in Lyons to the late Harry Slater and Marilyn Monroe Slater of Stillmore.
Colleen was Star Student & Valedictorian of ECI, class of 1972 while working at Mr. Henry Johnson’s store, then married her high school sweetheart, Carl Duckworth of Metter, & later lived in Newton & Gwinnett counties.
She retired from the Home Building Industry in 2021 & moved back to her siblings in Stillmore…. with all of her “energy”. Colleen was very active in her Church, Stillmore Missionary Baptist Church & the Stillmore Ladies Club. She gave to and helped anyone who was in need.
Colleen was an avid reader with a sharp memory that surprised everyone who knew & loved her. She could outwork most men, and had a knack for helping others who didn’t even know they needed it. Her greatest joy was her Savior (to whom she rode her bicycle & talked to out loud), her husband, her children, and her family.
Colleen is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Randy Slater.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Duckworth of Stillmore; sons, Daniel Duckworth and Tyler Duckworth, both of Stillmore; daughter, Samantha McDaniel (Robbie) of Bishop; brother, Keith Slater of Stillmore; sisters, Beverly Johnson of Kenfield and Judy Boatright (Ronald) of Stillmore; grandchildren, J.R. McDaniel (Jessie), Hope Armstrong (Jarrod), Jacob McDaniel, Jason McDaniel; 2 great-grandchildren, Monroe McDaniel and Sadie McDaniel.
The pallbearers will be Robbie McDaniel, J.R. McDaniel, Jacob McDaniel, Jason McDaniel, Jarrod Armstrong, and Regan Slater.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Stillmore Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend George Archer officiating.
Interment will be in Stillmore City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home.
