Susan Marie Duckworth, age 62, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on August 8, 1962, in Johnson City, New York, Susan brought warmth and joy into the lives of all who knew her. Memorial services were held on Susan's birthday, August 8, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Susan was the beloved wife of Leonard Carl Duckworth and a devoted mother to Carla Marie King and her husband David Allen King; Michael Barry Duckworth; and Afton Nicole Shaver and her husband David Shaver. She cherished her role as Memaw to her treasured grandchildren: Oliver Woodson Duckworth, Sarah-Ann Marie King, and Leona Jo Shaver. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Floyd Warner II and Eleanor Pearl (Ross) Warner. Susan was also preceded in death by her brothers Anthony L. Warner and Peter P. Warner. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Arthur F. Warner III, Barbara A. (Warner) Roberts, John A. Warner, James J. Warner, and Robert A. Warner. Susan's life was defined by her boundless love for family and her unwavering dedication to those around her. She had the sweetest smile that could light up any room, the warmest hugs that offered comfort beyond words, and a true servant's heart that guided everything she did. Whether as a best friend, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, or an adoring Memaw, Susan gave of herself fully and unconditionally. Her extended family includes many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly and who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. May Susan's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire acts of love and generosity in the world she leaves behind. Flowers and cards may be sent to the family's home address or donations may be made in Susan's honor to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or Novant NHRMC Neuroscience Institute.
